~ Grandparents Poems ~
Grandmas are for stories
About things of long ago
Grandmas are for caring
About all the things you know
Grandmas are for rocking you
And singing you to sleep
Grandmas are for giving you
Nice memories to keep
Grandmas are for knowing
All the things you're dreaming of
But, most importantly of all
Grandmas are for love.
Cleaning and scrubbing
Can wait til tomorrow
Cause babies grow up
We've learnt to our sorrows
So settle down cobwebs
Dust go to sleep
I'm rocking my grandchild
Cause babies don't keep.
Grandma, can we bake something sweet
With your soft voice guiding my hand
I'll mix the ingredients the proper way
You are always easy to understand
Grandpa won't you build a fire for me
I have marshmallows we can roast
Together we will have some fun
Seeing who can eat the most
Vacation time is growing shorter each day
Soon I'll beginning a new school year
My special moments with grandma and you
Will always be moments I hold dear.
Someone who will understand
Who knows the way I feel
In every situation
Their concern is very real
Someone who has walked my ways
Who knows my every need
Times when they would see me cry
Their heart would nearly bleed
Everyone should have grandparents
Just the way I do
Richly blessed is what I am
To have grandparents like you.
Grandmother, you are
Like a patchwork quilt
So cozy and warm
Just the smell of coffee
Reminds me of our wisdom and charm
I know I can always come to you
When lost or alone
For you always comfort me
And make me feel at home
You are the silver lining of a cloudy day
And I know whom can trust
When clouds blow my way
Grandmother, your hugs and kisses
Will be stored in my heart each day.
Grandma's and grandpa's are everything nice
Like presents and candy and raspberry ice
And chocolate fudge sundaes, with cherries on top
And popcorn and peanuts and grape soda pop
In winter or summer, in rain or in sun
Grandma's and grandpa's are wonderful fun!
In the not too distant past
I remember very well
Grandmas tended to their knitting
And their cookies were just swell
Well, grandma's not deserted you
She dearly loves you still
You just won't find her cooking
But she's right there at the till
She thinks about you daily
You haven't been forsook
Your photo's are quite handy
In the Pentium notebook
She's right there when you need her
You really aren't alone
She's busy with her website
But just call her new cell phone
She's joined the electronic age
And it really seems to suit her
So don't expect the same old gal
Cause grandma's gone "computer"!
(Looks like the unknown author knows me!)
I remember soft and gentle hands
Reaching out to dry my tears
I remember warm and loving arms
That chased away my fears
Someone that I could run to
Who always made sure she was there
An ear that would patiently listen
Someone who always cared
There's something rare and wonderful
God placed in a grandmother's heart
Something he knew a child would need
Right from the very start
Heaven has a place reserved
For grandmother's sweet and kind
But I had a little Heaven on earth
In the grandmother I called mine.
I like to walk with grandpa
His steps are short like mine
He doesn't say "Now hurry up"
He always takes his time
I like to walk with grandpa
His eyes see things like mine do
Wee pebbles bright, a funny cloud
Half hidden drops of dew
Most people have to hurry
They do not stop and see
I'm glad that I have grandpa
Unrushed and young like me.
When Grandpa comes and reads to me
I feel the sun and smell the sea
I hear of men who caught the whales
And then some wild safari tales
He reads how cowboys rode the trails
And men worked hard to build the rails
That carried trains out to the west
Then baseball stories I like best
Grandpa can't do skateboards, though
He's not good with Nintendo
These things I overlook, you see
Cause I love him and he loves me.
Grandma hugs and grandma kisses
Hot oven cookies and holiday wishes
Attics with treasures of children grown old
Stories of magic and princes so bold
Oceans of patience and rainbows of love
A bright ray of sunshine sent from above
You stirred my childhood with rich, golden days
Touching my life in so many ways
When shadows are dark, I reach through the night
The love of a grandmother shines like a light.
A grandma is someone
Who's dear in every way
Her smile is like the sunshine
That brightens each new day
A grandma is someone
Who plays a special part
In all the treasured memories
We hold within our heart.
Few can bring the warmth
We can find in their embrace
And little more is needed to bring love
Than the smile upon their face.
They've a supply of precious stories
Yet they've time to wipe a tear
Or give us reasons to make us laugh
They grow more precious through the years.
Grandparents are meant for kisses and hugs
For watching rainbows and catching bugs
For baking all of your favorite things
For books to read and songs to sing.
Grandpa, throughout the years
You've always been
A wonderful man you see
When I was small you took the time
To bounce me on your knee
As I grew older you were there
I only had to call
I knew that I could count on you
You'd never let me fall
So many hard times in my life
You've helped to get me through
I'm so glad that I've been given
A grandfather like you.
Grandma and Grandpa
Keep that twinkle in your eyes
You taught me so many things
You're always kind and wise
So I will send you all my love
For in my heart you'll stay
So relax and just enjoy a
Happy Grandparent's Day!
