This is St. Patrick.

He was a priest who went to Ireland to converted the Irish to the Catholic faith. He used the shamrock as a symbol of the Trinity. Legend says that he drove all the snakes out of Ireland. He died on March 17. That day has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since.
